Happy Halloween, everybody! 🎃

I've got to say, it's been a awesome Halloween season. Even though my schedule has been crazy, I still carved out time to hunt for Halloween junk food, visit Spirit Halloween, and track down this year's Halloween buckets! (I don't care what anyone says, this year's McDonald's Halloween buckets are badass and totally give me Muppets vibes.)

Tonight's blog post is all about Halloween buckets! Over the years, I've gathered quite the spooky collection, and I wanted to pay tribute to some of my favorites. These buckets might not hold a ton of candy for trick-or-treating, but Halloween just isn't complete without them making an appearance.

McGoblin (1986)

What can I say about McGoblin? I have so many memories of this guy from my childhood. Back then, I DID think I could fill McGoblin with Halloween candy as I traversed the neighborhood in my '89 Joker or Ghostbusters costume. That grinning, mischievous face was perfect for a pumpkin. I've carved many a jack-o'-lantern using McGoblin as my inspiration.

Just looking at this picture immediately takes me back to those times. My birthday is on Halloween, so as a kid, it was an epic day. Most of my relatives would come over for a combined birthday and Halloween party, and my family would go all out. After trick-or-treating, we'd come back for birthday cake, Garfield's Halloween Adventure, and It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, all while McGoblin watched over the festivities!

Disney World Halloween Popcorn Bucket (???)

My wife and I never visited Disney World, but we've been to Disneyland twice. (Remind me to write about both trips, especially the one with a humiliating interaction with Rey at Galaxy's Edge.) Now, let's talk about this amazing Disney World Halloween bucket. In our town, there are several antique stores, and most of them have a selection of Disneyland memorabilia. During the Halloween season, some stores even dedicate entire sections to Disney-themed Halloween items!

One day, I was rummaging through some items in a corner of one of these stores. Tucked behind some old records and Star Wars: Episode 1 dolls, I found this Disney World popcorn bucket. It was love at first sight. The character designs are fire! It reminds me of one of my all-time favorite Halloween specials, "The Scariest Story Ever: A Mickey Mouse Halloween Spooktacular." If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend watching it this year.

McWitch (1993)

Just like McGoblin, McWitch evokes strong memories of my childhood Halloweens. Everything I found online says that McWitch was released in 1993, it feels to me like it was later. At that time, I was at the cusp of adolescence, still clinging to childhood rather than embracing my pre-teen years. Suddenly dressing up and trick-or-treating was starting to sound less cool.

Looking at the purple witch makes me want to go trick-or-treating right now! And when you spin her around, a bonus design shows her black cat—if I can borrow a line from Garfield, "Nice touch!" McWitch, or at least it's her art style, is ripe for a revival. It screams early '90s Halloween to me. Can you image if we got one of those 90's Mcdonald's commercials and a McWitch costume character appeared? The internet would go insane!

BONUS: Dunkin' Halloween Munchkin Bucket (2024)

Alright, let's dive into the bonus pick and honestly, one of the best tie-ins for the 2024 Halloween season – the Dunkin' Halloween Munchkin bucket! Finishing strong! I'm in love with this bucket, with its dark purple, bright orange, and the little Munchkin donuts dressed up and trick-or-treating around town. What a win for those of us who collect this type of thing.

Can I just say how much I miss Dunkin'? While we have Krispy Kreme, and this year we got Ghostbusters donuts, which is great, I need a spider donut and little round donut holes inside a Halloween bucket! I remember Dunkin' having really good coffee too – not the kind you buy at Target, but the coffee that's brewed in-store. A huge shout-out to my parents for sending one of these amazing buckets.

I hope you enjoyed a look at some Halloween buckets that are special to me. What are some of your favorites? We live in a time where these fast-food chains and Disney parks bring us new Halloween buckets every year, and I get that they aren't exactly how we remember them, but it's still fun to drive around listening to "Dead Man's Party" while hunting for them.

I hope you had a great rest of your 2024 Halloween season, and that Halloween day/night is just as great for you. Just want to thank you guys for reading the blog and following me on social media. I'm going to do my best to keep making more scary content! 🎃

Stay Spooky,
Jeremy
